Every once in a while, a revolutionary app comes along that changes everything. The term ad infinitum which literally means to go on forever is a fitting description of the idea behind this app. One and a half years ago we first imagined an app that could somehow allow individuals to interact with the cosmos on a personal level. It’s a special idea that has taken significant effort to bring to fruition and is something we are very proud of.i Infinitum is the culmination of this and together we are going to make some history with this app. You simply select a photo from the gallery on your iPhone then using a new technology it will be converted into a package of radio waves that are imprinted with the individual building blocks that make up the photo. A number of these radio waves are than transmitted into space and bounced off the moon, some of these will return to earth and some will continue into the far reaches of space. Now here’s the magical part, those that are received back will be converted back into a photo which will be emailed back to you. Isn’t that cool?As the radio waves travel to the moon and back they can be affected by a number of forces as they complete their journey. The Earth’s atmosphere, the surface or albedo of the moon, space particles and gravity will all have some effect on the shape and power of the wave. This means that the photo you receive back will not necessarily be the same as the one that was launched, it will be uniquely different as a result of its voyage. Where and by how much it is changed will be different for every photo but the end result will be a combination of the unique journey it makes. It’s an incredible idea. The radio waves that are not bounced off the moon will continue to travel around the universe ad infinitum, your photo will go on forever. Now for the technical part and without giving away to many of our secrets, i Infinitum incorporates a revolutionary new technology that transforms your photo into a digital medium that can be transmitted into space. It’s super smart and works like magic. The breakthrough convertor allows high energy high frequency radio waves between 40 MHz and 50 GHz to be generated with energy of around 90 watts. The propagation of the radio waves from an earth based transmitter reflected back from the surface of the moon to an earth based receiver is done on either 70 or 23 centimeter bands. What’s more, the distance from the Earth to the Moon varies because the orbit of the Moon is not perfectly circular, it is somewhat elliptical with a mean distance of 384,000km. This means the largest distance between the two can be 406,700km and the shortest distance as little as 356,400km depending on the time of the year. The moon is only 11% efficient as a reflector which means the signal loss is extreme at around 280dB depending on the magnitude of the Doppler shift. To further complicate matters the signal loss between the two distance extremes can be as much as 2.25dB. These are just a few of the technological challenges we have overcome. We are thrilled to bring you i Infinitum, good luck and Godspeed.
